This is a place where people slow down and take it easy. There’s no traffic to fight and no crowds to beat. It’s just nature and down-home mountain living.
The town of Guffey offers unique sights, with rusty relics and quirky creations lining the sides of Main Street. Visit Last Chance Antiques to find your own treasure, like horseshoe art, bison skulls, antique stoves, and Guffey souvenirs. Take a loop around town and stop in one of the local eateries, Wild Spirit Mountain Lodge, Bakery at Strictly Guffey and Colorado Mountain Distillers, for a delicious meal. You’re likely to meet some of the locals—people and deer—while having an experience you won’t soon forget.
Where’s Guffey?
Guffey is located in southern Park County, just off Highway 9 on County Road 102, right in the heart of Colorado. It’s situated at about 8,700 feet elevation.
Surrounded by beautiful forests and varied terrain, visitors find opportunities for outdoor recreation in every direction—fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, rafting, boating, and more.
Eleven Mile State Park, Paradise Cove (aka Guffey Gorge), and several other great hiking spots can be found nearby. Gold Medal waters of the South Platte River, including The Dream Stream, plus other outstanding fishing at Eleven Mile and Spinney Mountain reservoirs, are right up the road from the lodge. Traveling under 30 miles in various directions, one can arrive at Cripple Creek, Royal Gorge, the Arkansas River, Florissant Fossil Beds, and Hartsel. Located off the beaten path, yet close to many great recreational spots, Guffey is both remote and accessible.
One of Guffey’s most famous attractions is the Guffey Gorge (also known as Paradise Cove). The Guffey Gorge is a small hiking trail towards a water hole surrounded by deep cliffs.
